Pictured here is a Dog Works, Inc. double shaft hooked up to a Home Hardware mid-size wagon. The wagon has rack and pinion steering - the pneumatic wheels pivot in place, instead of the entire axle pivoting around the centre.
This setup connects two dogs, on one either side of the centre pole, to the cart. The centre pole would be threaded through the loop on the dog's harness. Other setups have three shafts, where each dog has a shaft on the outside, plus a shared centre shaft.
Pictured here is a Dog Works, Inc. single shaft hooked up to a Home Hardware mid-size wagon. This setup allows one dog to pull the wagon.
These pictures show the brakes used on some shafts purchased from Dog Works. The brakes should be adjusted after the harness is fitted and the dog positioned in the shafts.
Here is one example of a connector that allows the shafts to attach to the hitch. Not all carts will need something like this. For example, the cart we have is essentially a one piece construction, so the shafts are permanently attached. Our wagon, however, was converted from a more standard kids' wagon. A key requirement was for the shafts to be removable, so that the whole thing would still fit in the car. The actual type, size and construction will depend on the hitch, the type and size of shaft material, and the connection required for the hitch.
