Cambridge Santa Parade 1997

Last Updated: 07 December 1997

The City of Cambridge, Ontario, held their Annual Santa Claus Parade on November 15, 1997. I organized a group we called Christmas Canines, as we weren't affiliated with any club or organization. Lots of people came out, and we had a number of carting dogs. The following pictures show some of what we did.

This parade is traditionally held at night, and they ask that entries have lights on them. We have a lot of battery-operated lights here, and our group of dogs was quite well lit!

As a side note, the snow caused all sorts of havoc with the photos we took. We got lots of light reflected back from the snowflakes, and some of the pictures didn't scan very nicely.

The Parade Gang

Here's most of the group after we finished the parade. See how the snow causes problems? Once the parade got going (we were in the last group and waited for over an hour to start moving to the Parade Starting Point), it moved at a great clip. It was a little hard to stop and let the dogs meet people, especially with the band behind us constantly up our rears....

Blossom's Wagon

Here's the wagon that Blossom pulled. Colette did a super job decorating all the carts. There are mini-lights on in the garland (not sure they show up really well in the picture).

Here's Colette and Sam, with Sam's cart, waiting for the parade to start. There are more lights in the garland. We had to dust the snow off the bears before we started out on the real route...looked like Sam was hauling a cart full of snowmen!

Another picture of Sam and the setup...

A close-up of the cart. All the stuff is actually fastened into the cart. Nothing to fall off that way.

Trystan is a Papillon that one of the group brought. He got a little cold, and it was a long walk for a little guy, so he hitched a ride in Sammy's cart.
